Day One

Standard

Today we will be fasting from Anxiety, a negative emotion that effects everyone in the human race. Every day we are tempted to believe the pictures it gives us of gloom, doom, and despair. But Anxiety keeps us from living the life that God wants us to live. He longs to give us the peace and joy that our souls cry out for, but He cannot give them to us if we hold on to Anxiety and listen to its chilling words of what could happen or what may happen to us.

Many people don’t want to worry but they’ve grown so accustomed to it for so long that they don’t know how to stop.

Here are some wonderful promises from the Bible on “Overcoming Anxiety”:

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 KJV.

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1 KJV.

“When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.” Proverbs 3:24 KJV.

“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7 KJV.

If we surrender our burdens to Jesus and leave them there with Him He promises to take care of them for us. One thing we cannot do is overburden Him with our worries and anxieties because Jesus is a very BIG God! Even if you have to give Him the same burden more than once He doesn’t become weary with it. He invites us to come to Him so that we can find true rest for our souls (Matt. 11:28-30).

Another thing that helps in nipping old Anxiety in the bud is to spend time with Jesus everyday in prayer and reading the Bible. When we get to know God more we will become more secure in this evil world where we must dwell for a little while. We will no longer have restless nights when our minds are filled with the wonderful words of the Holy Bible. And the best part is we will start to pray and trust in Him instead of worry when troubles come our way.

Remember this promise that Jesus Himself gave us, “I will never leave you nor forsake you”. (Heb. 13:5)
