“It is not by force nor by strength, but by My Spirit, says the LORD Almighty.” Zechariah 4:6 NLT.
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin.” Zechariah 4:10 NLT.
These promises are for all of God’s people. I believe that they can be a great encouragement to us when we participate in the SPAM Fast.
In the first promise, God is saying that we can’t do His will in our own strength or force. The only One who can help us be successful in staying away from the things that are of this world is the Holy Spirit, the third member of the Godhead. The Holy Spirit is God and if we let Him He will make our experience with Jesus sweeter and better. Remember to always ask for the Holy Spirit’s presence and power everyday (when you fast and when you don’t fast). There is never a day when we don’t need Him.
In the second promise, God is saying to not despise the small steps you take in drawing closer to Him. Even if you can only have a SPAM Fast for one day, don’t let that get you down. If you are faithful in the little things, God will help you to be faithful in the big things. Drawing closer to God is a step by step process. When you decide to do what the Holy Spirit impresses you to do and prayerful take the step, no matter how small, God rejoices. God can start His work in us when we listen and obey. He won’t force us to follow His will. And through it all we realize that it wasn’t us that overcame the world, it was God through us that did it. Faith in Jesus Christ, which is relying on Him (believing that He can work through you to do what is right) is what overcomes the world.
“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” 1 John 5:4 NKJV.
Make Jesus your primary focus during your SPAM Fast.
